Since the middle of 1990s, China's higher education system has undergone unprecedented development and reformation. Now it has entered into a new phase. China's cultural and social development not only provides more growth opportunities for China's universities, but also requires higher-quality education to satisfy the progress of Chinese society. In the process of China's transformation from a populous country to a nation with plenty talents, higher education must shoulder greater responsibility at this critical moment. It is widely acknowledged that improving the higher education quality is the major task of our future educational reformation.

China owns unique resources to improve our higher education quality and build our country with great manpower resources. Compared with other big countries, our economy is still developing rapidly; we are able to increase our investment in higher education in a sustainable and stable manner. However,China's higher education is facing lots of challenges. We had have to optimize the structure and system of higher education for with the purpose of turn the investment into quality and efficiencybuild a qualified and efficient educational system.; thereThere is much space for us are many shortages for us to enhance and improve in the field of higher education administrationgovernance, knowledge creation innovation and talent training.

With the subsidization ofSponsored by the Ford Foundation, East Asian Institute of National University of Singapore has conducted a research to investigate the progress and challenges of china's higher education reformation. From Jan 2011, the research team led by Professor Yongnian Zheng had conducted their surveys in multilevel universities in Beijing, Xi'an, Wuhan, Shanghai and Hangzhou. By using the method of depth-interview and brain storming, they have constructed a strategic "roadmap" for higher education reformation.

This seminar was co-hosted by East Asian Institute of National University of Singapore and CCG, . the The research team of "of"China of "China Higher Education Reformation"  will introduced their works research outcome in the seminar. to the participants, it is divided into inIn four parts:

(1)  Philosophy of China Education

(2)   China Higher Education Governance;

(3)   China Higher Education institutions' knowledge innovation system;

(4)   China Higher Education institutions' talents cultivation system.

In tThis seminar, participants  will discussed how to make Chinese universities get back to its their academic role, explored the next step of the Higher Education reformation, and proposed relevant policy recommendations. The organizer of the meeting will inalso invited experts to comment and discuss the research team's report, and there will bewith the purpose of stimulating a morea lively discussion.
